dearest someday » for the dreamers, the free spirited and the adventurous

I am so excited for this weekend.. my girl and I are finally going to get around to making some terrariums!  We found the most fabulous succulents last night.. and we just can not wait to get them into some glass containers!

Laine was actually all ready to go quite some time ago.  For Christmas, my mom gave her a collection of fabulous glass containers.. fun rocks and items to decorate with and a selection of small plants and succulents.  Oh, and her gift also included this awesome book.. full of inspirational ideas!  She has been taking care of her plants since then.. but we haven’t got around to actually putting together any terrariums.  Such a shame, I know!

..actually, that is a lie!  I just remember that she has already made one!  She did a great job.. it is a simple one with moss and a little deer figurine.  So adorable!

Then, while we were in Edmonton last month, we found these glass containers at Urban Outfitters.. so we each had to buy one!  Of course!  ..and now we have even more succulents to play with, so we are definitely good to go!

Yes.. I think it is going to be a great weekend!

Nicole @ Dutchie Love - I have the exact same terrarium from Urban Outfitters that I just got for my birthday a few weeks ago and it’s just WAITING to be filled with lovely little green plants! May I ask where you found such pretty succulents?ReplyCancel

Mel Blackburn - Such a great idea, I should do that with my oldest as well. I can’t wait to see the final product.ReplyCancel

Spring is teasing us this year.  For the most part, our snow is gone.. but it has been so windy and sooo cold. Yesterday the sun was shining.. it was a great day to be out and about.  Loved it, thought it was definitely a sign of things to come.  But today it is cold and gloomy again.. so glad it is a work at home kind of day.

My oldest is off at school, so it is just me and my littlest cozied up.  Harley is colouring away.. and I am trying my hardest to get into work mode.  Not going to lie.. it has been a weird week for me.  I have been so so so tired, napped for a bit on two separate afternoons this week.  I never nap.. like never ever.

I have been on my computer less, and reading more.  It has been a nice little break, but I feel the need to catch up and get myself motivated again!  A person needs that every now and then.. a little refresher.  Is it summer holidays yet!? ha ha!  Just kidding.

I am so very excited for things to come.. so many fun things happening and I can’t wait to share more.  Loving that the weather should soon be cooperating for some outdoor photo shoots.. so many ideas to bring to life.

In other news.. a new card set should be up in the next couple of days.. by Monday for sure!  So, be on the lookout!  New prints and a few other things coming to the shop as well.  Can’t wait!

Have you ever heard the phrase.. your dreams come a size too big so you can grow into them?  Yeah.. I can see that.

I have huge dreams.  Are they too huge? Most likely.  In my dreams, I have a studio for photo shoots.. preferably something loft-ish.. warehouse-ish. ha ha!  If you know Grande Prairie, you know that is never going to be an option lol!  Also, would love to incorporate a large work space to develop my shop, maybe even carry my items in the studio as well as online… and it goes on and on and gets bigger and bigger.  It is a dream.. what can I say?  I like to dream.

Reality.. basement studio.  Um correction.. undeveloped basement studio. ha ha!  But you know what, it will work just fine.  I created a new backdrop last weekend  and had a chance to give it a test shoot.  It was 5pm on Sunday afternoon and lighting was definitely limited.  By Tuesday.. I had ordered myself a reflector kit! ha! Yes, I looove natural lighting, and want to stay away from lights as much as possible, so for now.. I will try my hand at reflecting.

Oliver the bunny had to make an appearance as well.. since Easter is right around the corner.  This is my version of a spring theme shoot.  Nothing too over the top, simple.. neutral, love shooting in neutrals!  Can you tell that yet? ha!

Will I ever grow into my dream?  Not sure.. something to strive for, and the best I can do is keep on going and see what happens!  All I know, is at the moment.. it is quite a few sizes too big! hee!  So much too learn, I definitely prefer shooting outside.. but up here, that isn’t always an option!  ..and the best part about our basement as a studio right now.. the concrete floors!  Love them!

An in house studio is definitely in the plans.. on a more finished level, hopefully soon!  ..but yes, the concrete floors can stay. ha!  It might be about as warehouse-ish as I get!

Betsy - So, I guess I don’t see why these dreams cannot happen. Perhaps they seem too big and overwhelming, but I see no reason why anyone cannot accomplish what they can dream! There are small business loans and grants and tons of tools online to give direction on how to start and grow a business. If the work space is too expensive on your own, find a partner! Its all about working smart instead of hard and I’m sure you can figure it out.ReplyCancel

chris - Love! I too have a dream of having a studio in the basement! It would be such a great alternative when the weather is not cooperating. Plus, living in Minnesota, our warm days are much less than cold and snowy days. Dream big, girl!ReplyCancel

Brenda - I too am dreaming of a studio space! I recently discovered Sue Bryce and she uses polystyrene boards (sheet insulation found at Lowes & Home Depot) for big 4×8 foot reflectors and also paints them for backdrops. You can buy them for $15!! She’s fabulous for inspiration for natural light studios.ReplyCancel

Katie - Love the backdrop! As far as achieving your dreams go, it’s amazing how far they can reach when we don’t set limitations for ourselves. As for myself, I’m slowly beginning to learn to not afraid of where my dreams take me :)ReplyCancel
