well…

The new chairs came!  ..and.. drum roll…

I am undecided.  I love them, I really do.  But, here are my thoughts at this point.. first off, they are not cream… I know the description said ‘beige’ but in my head, the ones that we saw at the store were more of an ivory/cream.  This complicates things.

Our sofa set in the living room is a similar colour.. but more yellow-ish, which is making these look pink. They aren’t pink, but comparing the two.. they just look it.  This picture isn’t really accurate either.. had trouble capturing it apparently, cause they are a bit darker than they look above.

James says we should just get a new couch.  MEN!

They are big.  I knew they would be.. but they are really really big.  I think a lot of this drastic ‘bigness’ is coming from the fact that our chairs we had in there before where so light and airy… the ‘big’ would probably not end up being an issue.  Might grow on me actually.

I love how they instantly made the dining room more sophisticated and I dunno.. grown up?

I am thinking that if the chairs stay, that the shelves have to go.. just too much happening or something. Maybe this could be my home for my beloved antler print!?  I sure would love to get that up on the wall!

Framed with a thick oversized frame.. rustic wood maybe?  This print is huge.. once framed it would fill that little wall at the end of the table quite nicely.

Other thoughts.. I like the end ones styled up with a bit of fur, can you see the one on the right?  That might be fun.  The brown end ones are staying for sure.  Love them.  Love love love them.  It is the side ones that have thrown me for a loop.  Instant thoughts when seeing them.. too dark (was picturing and fell in love with ivory/cream), big on the sides (but again, could work with that).. honestly, it is just the colour.

So, what to do about that?  Return the side ones and find a non-matching but matching set of 4 for the sides? Leave them and deal with it?  Buy a new couch!? ha ha  Get them reupholstered?  That seems kind of silly.   Stick the 4 ‘wicker’ chairs back in the sides for now?  Suck it up? lol

It was *this close* to perfect.

Here is a shot that kind of shows the colour difference between the chairs and the sofa (not a good shot for colour comparison, but it gives you an idea)… and also shows you how close they are to each other within the room, and why the matching but definitely not matching look isn’t working for me.  If only they were light like I thought they were!

What do you think?  What would you do?  ACK.. so so so close!

Rachel - Hey…have you checked out Nood at all? They have the Eames style chairs for a very reasonable price: http://www.nood.ca/moulded-fibreglass-side-chair-canada-only

Just to tempt you :)I do like the chairs, just can’t decide if they are the right look for you! I know whatever you decide you can totally pull it off though :)January 11, 2012 – 2:27 pm

Michelle - what if you kept the dark end ones….and got something (or painted your old ones) to match……I’m guessing those chairs won’t work….but if you paint them they “might do” until you find something perfect……

I come here for design advice….so really you can’t go by me. hahaJanuary 11, 2012 – 2:51 pm

Amy @ Lovely Nest - I really like the end ones, but I’m not sure about the side ones. From the photos it seems like they’re almost too big for the table and overwhelm it. Again, it might just be the angle and being in the room, they might look different. And I have to agree the colors being slightly off would bother me too! You’re not crazy!

p.s. I also love that you posted this. I know some of us have probably gone through similar situations in our head, ordering something and then second guessing, but it’s nice to find out I’m not the only one that does stuff like this! And so many times I try to get things perfect before blogging about them, but it’s stuff like this that makes blogging nice because it doesn’t have to be perfect all the time. I’m sure whatever you end up with will be great! ok. long comment done!January 11, 2012 – 2:59 pm

Robyn W. - Hey girl! How are you? Ok, my honest opinion…love the end ones too! But think the other 4 side chairs are a little big. And the color being off with the main sofa would irk me too. I think they look fine and would grow on you – but I also think it would be super fun to do a more Eames style or industrial chair for the sides and keep the big chairs at the ends. Could look awesome to combine the two! Love it though! Your home pictures are always super inspiring! hugs!January 11, 2012 – 3:04 pm

Jennifer Pebbles - Go with your gut, take the cream/pink chairs back and pick something you love. Is there a spot under your couch where you can cut off a piece of the fabric to take with you for comparison? That is what I would do. I have sent things back before, don’t worry! You’re not crazy, you have a good eye.January 11, 2012 – 6:44 pm

Jennifer Pebbles - and I like Robyn’s comment!! :DJanuary 11, 2012 – 6:44 pm

pretty arty - if you’re not happy, just send them back… you’ll find soon chairs you like best and if you buy them you will not know what to do about these ones … or you will regret it if you don’t buy them:)January 12, 2012 – 1:13 am

Kathleen - Since you asked…

Live with them for a few more days (as long as you don’t exceed the return time).

But my feeling is, if you don’t love them now, you’ll really be hatin’ them after a while.January 12, 2012 – 4:55 am

Leslie - Hey the chairs are great but I think there are too many of the same size going on. Maybe just have one (the lighter ones) on each end of the table as captains chairs and then use the other natural wicker you were using before for the other 4. I think it looked nice and homey when it had an airy feeling. It is overwhelming for the size of your table with all of the large ones. It is all a matter of opinion though, I would for sure play around with it for a few days! You do a great job decorating, I enjoy your blog!!January 12, 2012 – 11:27 am

joanne - Uh dont you hate when that happens!! I see the pink thing.. although they r nice, I see it too. My hubby thinks I am crazy for paying that much attention but I have two pieces of furniture that r a little off and it drives me bananas!! I say if you cant get over it, get rid of it :)January 12, 2012 – 4:57 pm

Katie - Oooh, that’s a tough decision! I would keep two of either type – dark or light – and use them on the ends. I think that I’d find wood ones that match the legs of the upholstered chairs for the sides of the table. Good luck!January 13, 2012 – 8:55 pm

Sabrina L - I love the leather ones! Not so much the lighter ones. They are gorgeous..no question about that..but they just seem so formal. Your homes have always been fun and quirky! I think the Eames knock-offs would look great. But I’m a sucker for anything Eames! ha haJanuary 14, 2012 – 10:58 am

Amanda - Hey!! The chairs are beautiful! I too tend to panic immediately after doing any kind of Reno/changes in the house! Ha! I definitely have to let myself live with things for a few days before I allow myself to panic! ;). Hard to tell colors from the pic but I would say the color is fine.. Even if different from couch but to me it is the scale that is a little off for the space. Tough call but I would say if you are really unhappy try replace the white side chairs for something smaller and see if that makes you feel better. .. LOVE your black wall!! It’s *just* enough black, perfect!January 15, 2012 – 9:50 pm
